Every year, several aspiring social work graduates strive to become full-pledged "Registered Social Workers" or RSWs by passing the Licensure Examination for Social Work. Some of them find success and are then rewarded with overwhelming joy of achieving something they've worked for through all the years spent studying during their college days as well as those weeks and months leading to the exam period spent cramming every piece of information into their brains. Unfortunately, some of these aspirants fail to pass the said licensure exam and will inevitably experience extreme sadness, frustration, shame, disappointment, worry, and sometimes anger.
I've seen the effects it has to people who have failed to pass the licensure exam and it is definitely unpleasant even from someone just looking in; and so it is for this reason that I decided to help people prepare for it in my own little way.
I investigated the reasons that may contribute to one's failure in meeting the required score to pass the exam and found out that there are indeed several challenges that must be overcome to better improve one's chances of passing the exam. The first reason is that some people could not find the time to dedicate solely for studying as some of them are already employed while others are busy just doing their everyday chores. The second reason I saw is the lack of financial capacity to enroll to review centers due to varying personal and family circumstances. The third reason I discovered is that several of these aspirants fail to tailor their study regimen to simulate the real-time experience of taking the board exam when studying on their own or with others that could have better prepared them to the real thing. Another reason is that people nowadays are so distracted by the technology we use everyday - social media, video games, TV shows and movies, celebrity news, and more that we can easily access by using our mobile devices.
After a lot of time spent brainstorming, I came up with the idea (though not so original) that may address the aforementioned challenges - THE SOCIAL WORK REVIEWER APP. Essentially, the app is a quiz/exam app aimed to be a companion app for social work graduates to help them in preparing for the the actual exam. This mobile app is free for anyone to download and use as much as they want. The app also provides different modes to cater to the different needs and circumstances of the users as they may choose the number of items to answer per session and they may also choose the subject they may want to focus on. The app also attempts to simulate real board exam experience by having a timer countdown during each session. Lastly, since most people always have their phones in their hands, the presence of the app in their phone may provide the option for the user to use their phones for studying rather than just surfing on the net.
The app is an excellent example of the phrase "Modern problems require modern solutions".
